Question: Talk about theLeadership and Learning for Emerald Group. Answer: Presentation The paper intends to talk about the center segments of business administration. So as to clarify the job of administration in business, the investigation talked about the celebrated pioneer John Maxwell and his commitment to the idea of initiative. As indicated by Maxwell, a pioneer knows the way, goes the way and shows the way. Also, the examination investigates various hypotheses authoritative initiative (Antonakis House, 2013). The fundamental reason for the exposition is to comprehend the significance of administration. Therefore the investigation incorporated a few assessments of Maxwell with respect to administration hypothesis. Conversation John Maxwell as a pioneer The acclaimed pioneer John Maxwell has made a magnificent information base with respect to the examples and practices of authority. He has composed a few books additionally where he set up his speculations of authority, while his addresses are considered to impact the people, particularly on the business experts to support their initiative characteristics (Maxwell, 2013). His composing doesn't discuss the individual rather it converses with the individual so one can draw out the better of himself. The books composed by him secured a few thoughts and hypotheses of authority as well as. John Maxwell shared accounts of prominent pioneers across world who had set models for other people (Maxwell, 2013). As indicated by Maxwell, initiative has been viewed as the impact, the effect on the experts to use their aptitudes so as to be proficient grinding away spot. He opines that initiative is a procedure as opposed to a negligible position (Algahtani, 2014). He proposes that one can accomplish the administration aptitudes, regardless of whether the individual isn't spurred by others. On the off chance that one beginnings without being inspired, later when inspiration comes in the way of progress, it turns out to be simple for the individual to continue pushing forward. Maxwell characterized administration as a lot of various aptitudes. It is something which one can learn whenever and afterward it very well may be improved (Steffens et al., 2013). Disregarding the way that a few people are brought into the world with initiatives characteristics, still anybody can learn it any purpose of life. Initiative as indicated by him is a visual thing. A large portion of the effective pioneers have visionary attributes that empower them to know the correct way while heading off to the way lastly help other to explore the method of accomplishment (Maxwell, 2013). He expressed that in spite of their position, everybody needs consolation some way or the other. According to his perception, authority rises up out of the center within somebody (Pollock, 2014). While the individual is standing out towards progress, the person needs to deal with their own character attributes. He brought up seven territories which can be overseen by the individual, for example, feelings, time, vitality, needs, thinking, individual life and above all expressions of mouth (Maxwell, 2013). While talking about Maxwells assessment of initiative, it merits notice that a triumph is tied in with knowing the motivation behind life. Experts need to comprehend their point of their and progress in like manner. It is somewhat a straightforward yet exquisite method of enabling (Maxwell, 2013). Maxwell distinguished 21 distinct laws of initiative that characterizes achievement of a person. The law proposes that a people capacity of initiative shows their degree of adequacy or effectiveness (Maxwell, 2013). Maxwell said that initiative can be estimated uniquely as far as impact. The procedure creates after some time not inside a day. Maxwell further expressed that a pioneer can explore the way not every person. Or maybe others follow his headings. An innovator in an association serves others and in this manner increases the value of the association. Truth and uprightness are the principle establishment of the initiative with the goal that others can tail them without any problem. So as to turn into an effective pioneer one needs to assess each viewpoint from an authority point of view. A pioneers probability relies upon the amount the individual in question is near his adherents (Maxwell, 2007). In an association, pioneers makes sense of the path for their group to make prog ress. Maxwell opined that a pioneer must forfeit his own enthusiasm for the enthusiasm of the colleagues. A pioneer must realize when to lead as he recognizes what to do so as to lead and where to lead. Best pioneers don't look for praises since they don't work for achievements (Maxwell, 2007). Or maybe they work for some more prominent reason. Benefit of enduring as far as administration relies upon the people achievement rate. Alongside the laws Maxwell additionally recognized basic characteristics that an individual ought to have so as to turn into an effective pioneer (Antonakis House, 2013). According to Maxwells recommendation, a pioneer must be appealling individual. Simultaneously, the individual need to extremely mindful to his adherents so they can feel esteemed. Hazard taking is another significant quality that a pioneer ought to have. In todays world, most associations need pioneers who will have the option to accept duties too as can take exploratory measures for the associati ons (Maxwell, 2007). Consequently, a pioneer ought to have test draws near. A pioneer ought to consistently show transparency towards learning new things despite the fact that he is in first rate position. In particular Maxwell said that a pioneer must have a dream and expectation capacity to abstain from having unfortunate circumstances. Hierarchical hypotheses Great pioneers move their devotees or colleagues in the way of activity and help them in understanding their own potential which can be placed so as to improve their productivity. In a large portion of the huge organizations, authorities are being re-appropriated, while in little organizations, the proprietor oneself assumes the liability of driving the whole work power (Dinh et al., 2014). It is significant for both the pioneers of an independent company just as enormous business to comprehend the speculations of authoritative initiatives. The absolute most significant hypotheses that a decent pioneer ought to know about have been examined underneath: Characteristic hypothesis Great authority characteristics lie in the people own qualities. Numerous scientists just as fruitful pioneers have recognized six characteristics which identify with the characteristics of initiative. The six individual attributes are: favorable circumstances, extraversion, good faith, transparency, knowledge, self viability and changes (Dinh et al., 2014). The characteristic hypothesis in this manner recommends that people who have such qualities have the solid prospects to become effective pioneers. Social hypothesis As indicated by the hypothesis, initiative isn't an assortment of characteristics, rather a lot of styles and practices. There are three primary initiative styles, for example, dictator, equitable and sans laissez. In tyrant style of administration, the pioneer has fascism and the devotees need to comply. While in majority rule style of administration, the pioneer permits his devotees to an aggregate choice procedure, in the laissez-reasonable style of initiative, the pioneer doesn't participate in the dynamic procedure (Westphal Zajac, 2013). A large portion of the adherents favor popularity based methodology of authority which expands their exhibition. Utilitarian hypothesis The utilitarian hypothesis proposes that the essential duty of the pioneer is to comprehend the prerequisite of the devotees. So as to comprehend the necessities, the pioneer must perform five essential works on: checking nature, arranging the exercises, preparing the supporters assess their exhibitions (McCleskey, 2014). Value-based speculations It is the hypothesis which contends that a pioneer should remunerate or rebuff the supporters according to their exhibitions. Pioneers by and large have objective to be accomplished, in this way it is fundamental for them to prepare their subordinates in like manner. Prizes must be given to those workers whose meet the objective (McCleskey, 2014). Transformational hypothesis A few heads embrace transformational speculations so as to spur their subordinates to work successfully. Pioneers use correspondences and make themselves available so they can look for new thoughts (McCleskey, 2014). Ecological hypothesis The ecological hypothesis proposes that the pioneers should utilize brain research and mindfulness programs so as to advance self-reasonable condition in the work place, where colleagues urge each other to play out their best (Freeman, Herriges Kling, 2014). The pioneers make such a domain which itself propels the colleagues to contend with one another and contribute the most extreme to the group. This thus enables the colleagues as well (Antonakis, House, 2013). Possibility hypothesis This hypothesis of initiative signifies that there is no most ideal approach to lead an association. It incorporates both the circumstance and the character of the pioneer. The hypothesis was proposed by Fred Edward Fiedler, the well known Austrian clinician (Fiedler, 2015). End All in all, it very well may be said that authority assumes a significant job in business. The paper obviously talked about John Maxwells speculations of authority just as the other authoritative hypotheses of administration. According to the announcement of Maxwell, a pioneer knows the way of accomplishment, demonstrates that way to its subordinates. Through the investigation of Maxwells hypotheses and other hierarchical speculations, the paper plainly brought the significance of the idea of administration. References Algahtani, A. (2014). wow.
wow. wow. Im Joe, and I dont really know where to start this post. I guess Im a blogger now. Also apparently Im a real life MIT student now too. Neither of these are things I ever thought would happen, so thats pretty cool. Thats probably an understatement, actually. Its insanely cool the process that brought me from my hometown, to getting accepted into this crazy place, to now being a blogger, happened so quickly, Im still in a state of shock (so try to forgive me if this post is all over the place). The idea of MIT never became a reality to me until I actually moved here. Throughout all of high school, the idea of college as a whole seemed so abstract and so distant that I basically thought it would never happen, but as Ive just very recently learned, it does indeed happen, and it happens very quickly. So Im here at MIT, taking actual classes and doing actual problem sets and making actual friends (really!). Its crazy. I moved up here on the 19th of August, for my pre-orientation program I was accepted to, Discover Product Design (DPD), which was so rad. I didnt know what to expect going in to it, knowing literally not one thing about the topic, but I think its safe to say that I learned a lot. We split in to groups and designed objects meant to fix a problem in our dorm rooms, and then proceeded to build them out of acrylic. My group came up with this (exceptionally impractical) bed whose mattress flips over to fold into a desk that would be way too big for any actual dorm room. Oh well. Speaking of dorm rooms, that leads me to my next point. Dorms. For my FPOP and most of REX, I was living in East Campus, Second East. During CPW earlier in the year, I was temped in MacGregor, but ended up spending a lot of my time over on the east side of campus, which included EC, but most of my time was spent in the courtyard of Senior House, trying again and again to master the tire swing (which, mind you, is no ordinary tire swing). Anyways, CPW came to an end, and when the time came for me to apply for housing, I put East Campus first I wasnt sure that Senior House would be right for me, and when results were posted, I got my first choice East Campus. When I arrived in Cambridge to move in, the summer resident hadnt moved out of room yet, so I was placed in a room down the hall, in a double alone (a dingle, as Ive heard people call it). But as orientation moved along, I realized I wasnt spending very much time at all at EC I found myself again and again at Senior House. Here at MIT though, you have a chance to move out of your dorm duri ng orientation to another residence (called REX, or residence exploration). So when the opportunity presented itself, I requested to move into Senior House, and somehow, I got in, and I couldnt be happier here. Its such an amazing and diverse place all of MIT is, for that matter and theres such a wonderful community. What really drew me was the culture of music and art that exists here two things that I am very into. Those are things that I really want to pursue while Im at MIT, if I can find time, which, as I have come to learn, is a valuable commodity. Once classes began, life turned very crazy very quickly. People always told me that MIT was hard, but I didnt really know what that meant. I think I have a handle on what that means now. I havent pulled an all-nighter yet to do psets, but Ive come close, staying up alone in the Hayden Library until 4 AM to do my 5.111 pset the night before it was due. If I had to impart one piece of wisdom Ive gleaned, it would be that college is nothing like high school. People told me that all the time before I got here, but now that Im here, I can verify. They are, in fact, different. I could whine and complain about all the work Ive already had to do, but that wouldnt be representative of my experience. You get what you put in. Already, I feel like Im so much more knowledgeable about the topics were covering than I was just a few weeks ago. I spent over 12 hours working on my most recent 18.01A problem set with a group, and it was definitely difficult, but if you had given me the same problems a week ago, I would have had literally no idea where to begin. As Im writing this, the results to my first MIT test ever were posted, 8.01, which I took last night. (and I got a 93 yesssssssssssss) With all the time I spend on classes and actual real work, time for other things has become increasingly scarce, and thus Ive been slowly learning to use my time more efficiently. I havent been able to do as much of the stuff as Ive wanted to do yet, but that will come. Im making sure to set aside time to write music and build stuff theyre still my passions, and Im pretty sure theyre what helped get me into MIT, so it makes sense that I should continue with them. I have this four bar loop I wrote the other day playing right now and Im trying to figure out what to do next with it. In general, I really want to explore music at MIT and Boston/Cambridge. To celebrate the end of the first week of school, I went to Boston Calling on Friday with a friend, to see Neutral Milk Hotel and The National, which was so awesome. This whole place is so incredibly creative and inspiring, and Im hoping that Ill be able to build off of that. (Speaking of building, note to self: join the MIT Hobby Shop, its soo rad.) Im in a freshman advising seminar called Digital and Darkroom Imaging, and last Sunday I developed real life film by hand in a darkroom, which was such an experience (also, not easy). I also (apparently) have 24/7 access to the darkroom in the Student Center, which is so cool. My HASS course for the semester is one on Jazz History, and the professor is a musician and is giving his students free tickets to a show hes playing. How rad is that? (very. its very rad.) I could write so many other things about my time here so far, and Im sure I will in future posts. Im still trying to process everything thats happened so far, life moves so quickly here. I understand why Pass/No Record exists for first semester. Transitioning is hard. Anyways. I think me and some friends are going to IHOP to eat pancakes and work on our next 18.01A pset, so thats what Im doing next. Thanks for getting through this wall of text, however disorganized it was. (Also, as you may have already noticed, I have a penchant for long, winding sentences with lots of commas. Sorry about that, Im working on it.) So, all in all, I like it here. (a lot)

In his article ââ¬Å"Emerging Adulthood: A theory of development from the late teens through the twentiesâ⬠(2000) Jeffrey Arnett proposes that a new term be put to use for the period between adolescence and adulthood. Arnett claims that ââ¬Å"emerging adulthoodâ⬠is a better label for those people between the ages between 18 and 25. With little prior attention given to this age span, theories from researchers such as Eriksen (1968), Levinson (1978) and Keniston (1971) tended to lump the youthful period starting at age 11 or so and continuing until the mid-20ââ¬â¢s along with adulthood, making no distinction between the earlier and later phases. Adulthood, as defined by Arnett through his research, is a period in oneââ¬â¢s life in which demographics, subjective perceptions and identity explorations are no longer ambiguous (Arnett 474). He points to differences between the 1950ââ¬â¢s and the 1990ââ¬â¢s regarding the age in which a person perceives himself to be an adultââ¬â in an earlier time period most persons in their early twenties had already married, held jobs and had one or more children, defining them as adults. In the 1990ââ¬â¢s not only did most of his subjects not hold jobs, they were unmarried, without children and attending school. Consequently, the age at which most researchers of an early period defined adulthood changed along with the population which not only no longer adheres to such standards to define adulthood but usually does not attain the stability and responsibility to be considered adults until their 30ââ¬â¢s. Emerging adulthood is not adolescence, the ââ¬Å"forgotten halfâ⬠or young adulthood and Arnett proves it by pointing out the limitations of each. Article #2: ââ¬Å"Growing up is harder to doâ⬠In an article from the American Sociological Association, Furstenberg et al (2004) refers to the period between the ages of 18 and 25 as early adulthood. The researchers make the assertion that becoming an adult now takes longer than it once did and is defined differently than it was in the period immediately after World War II. In the 1950ââ¬â¢s, couples were usually married by their early 20ââ¬â¢s, the husband held a job and most likely they had one or more children. Citing demographic trends, Furstenberg, et al. claims that now it is more likely that people in their early 20ââ¬â¢s are getting an education and relying on their families for financial and other support. They point to several reasons for this lag in becoming an adult: the changing role of women in society, the establishment of Social Security benefits which made it unnecessary for young couples to take care of their aging parents by working after completing high school and changing economic forces which require the acquisition of more skills before being able to land a good job that in order to support oneself (Furstenberg et al 39). It is taking longer for adolescents to reach adulthood and the growing demands on this age group occur because of ââ¬Å"new demands on families, school and governmentâ⬠(40). Furstenberg and his colleagues expect that reforms must take place in both the school system and the military to ease the transition and cause young adults to grow up and become self sufficient more quickly. Maturity and Emerging Adulthood: A New Phase in Life? Recently, both sociological and psychological research has introduced the advent of a new phase in life referred to as either ââ¬Å"emerging adulthoodâ⬠or ââ¬Å"young adulthoodâ⬠. These terms apply to a nebulous period in a personââ¬â¢s life, roughly between the ages of 18 and 25, when an enormous amount of existential changes take place. Two theories were examined for the purposes of this paper: ââ¬Å"Emerging Adulthood: A theory of development from the late teens through the twentiesâ⬠Arnett, 2000) and ââ¬Å"Growing up is harder to doâ⬠(Furstenberg et al, 2004). It is Arnettââ¬â¢s theory that ââ¬Å"emerging adulthoodâ⬠is the proper way to categorize this period while Furstenberg et al prefers to refer to it as ââ¬Å"young adulthoodâ⬠. Both sets of research point to the differences between the era of the 1950ââ¬â¢s and more current times, making the assertion that the concept of adulthood, as well as its reasons for occurring later have changed due to a number of factors. The logos, ethos and pathos of each article will be examined and compared, showing that even without the scientific jargon used in the Arnett article, the Furstenberg treatise makes an arguably better case for defining the years following high school and college as ââ¬Å"young adulthoodâ⬠through its easy to understand concepts, its logical reasoning for the changes taking place and its exploration of current circumstances regarding family, education and lifestyle. Arnett (2000) begins his research article by defining the period he deems emerging adulthood in terms of age, based on analogies to previous research which tended to lump together both the years of youth and the early years of adulthood. He presents a theoretical background on the subject, supporting evidence, explanation of the term emerging adulthood and a final cultural context. He appeals to readersââ¬â¢ sense of logic by citing the research findings and then defining the demographics which identify his characterization. Arnett narrowly defines the demographics of his studied group and further relates statistics which show changes in residence, responses to questions regarding a subjective definition of adulthood and respondentsââ¬â¢ answers and a graph showing peak exploratory behavior. Using specific terminology and definitions, Arnett makes his point by employing terms which evoke a sense of scientific and psychological accuracy in his findings. Furstenberg, et al (2004) also use logos in their rhetoric. Citing survey results accomplished by other teams in both the 1950ââ¬â¢s and closer to 2000, the findings are presented logically but without the use of scientific terminology. Factual data is used to show the differences between survey respondentsââ¬â¢ definition of what it means to have reached adulthood. Analogies are made between the two groupings of subjects studied with allowances made for the particularly different roles of women in the two eras in order to indicate that there are now less people in the age group of 18 ââ¬â 25 who are considered to be ââ¬Å"adultsâ⬠through a traditional definition of the term. You read "Maturity and Emerging Adulthood" in category "Essay examples" Their study, in a manner similar to Arnettââ¬â¢s, makes a case for the introduction of a new defining period of life which they call young adulthood by pointing to previous research as well as laying out facts regarding the changes that have taken place since the 1950ââ¬â¢s. The conclusion of the article urges readers to think about the implications inherent in modifying existing systems of school and military preparedness training for young people. In terms of ethos, Arnett employs reliability, competence and respect for the researchers who have gone before him in making strides towards defining life phases and everything that occurs to go along with them. His research is thorough and includes extensive study in the subject, with a slant toward the psychological aspects of the period of emerging adulthood. He gives credit where credit is due and interprets previous findings with a fair and balanced explanation. His use of terminology that is beyond the understanding of most people, however, tends to produce a work that, while considered ethical, is almost meant to be condescending. Ethically, the Furstenberg article also meets the criteria of demonstrating reliability in its research findings and summaries, competence through the use of its authorsââ¬â¢ credentials and clear understanding of the subject and respect for its readers by portraying the research results and conclusions in language easily understood by a layperson. Several snippets of interviews with subjects falling within their defined age range show that the researchers took a ââ¬Å"hands-onâ⬠approach to their study and portrayed these descriptions in a fair and balanced manner without making judgment. An interesting facet of the study is their assertion that socio-economic levels play a key role in the development of a young person into an adult as defined in their study ââ¬â those subjects in lower socio-economic levels tended to grow up much faster due to the increased urgency to find stable work, marry at a younger age and support a family and its needs. The ethos of the article is arguably more favorable in that it uses a more appropriate level of vocabulary. The article written by Arnett is least of all employing pathos to state its points. There is no visual imagery nor an emotional tone, example or emotion-invoking language. The study is very clear cut and a good example of a proponent of psychology attempting to convince the reader that his methods, rationale and findings are of a scientific nature. Not relying on emotions and keeping the article grounded in factual information ensures that it will not appeal to the subjective nature of its readers. Accordingly, pathos has no place in his writing and neither does Arnett attempt to rectify this lack. In contrast, Furstenberg et al clearly enjoy relating their research and its findings in a more conversational manner. Using visual images with corresponding descriptions of the people depicted within, the reader is given a sense of being introduced to some of their subjects. The readers of the article learn a bit about the lives of the respondents as well as their social and economic circumstances and the reasons they have reached the age of 25 or older without feeling they can be defined as an adult. Descriptions of life in the 1950ââ¬â¢s when most couples in their mid-20ââ¬â¢s were married and raising a family, evoke a good feel for the era and encourage the reader to relate these portrayals to ââ¬Å"many of todayââ¬â¢s grandparentsâ⬠(33). An emotional response is the result, making the results of the study seem more relevant and interesting. Both articles made a valid point in demanding the usage of a new term for the period between youth and adulthood. Clearly, evidence from both Arnett and Furstenberg et al show that there are differences not only in the social structure of todayââ¬â¢s society but also in the role of a young adult. After World War II, the GI Bill encouraged young men who had served in the military to receive an education through subsidies and then settle down to raise a family. No longer is there a need to support parents during this phase of life; conversely it is usually the parents who provide financial and other support to their emerging adults. No longer do older children feel obligated to stay at home but often go through a variety of residences as they experience life in college, romantic relationships and explorations of the world at large. There has also been a change in economics not only in the United States but in the world at large. These changes are reflected in the lack of job security which often necessitates the need for further education and training (Smith). Women, in particular, have experienced a changing role due to economics. No longer expected to stay at home and be a mother, most couples find it financially necessary for the woman to obtain a job and in order to find one that is well-paying, she, too, must get an education. There is a greater percentage of young adults in todayââ¬â¢s society who receive an education which is necessary to compete in todayââ¬â¢s top job markets. The three indicators of adulthood which are agreed upon by both Arnett and Furstenberg et al are: financial independence, completion of education and a stable, independent home. Back in the 1950ââ¬â¢s most were considered adults if they were married and had children while the husband held a job which could sustain his family. Todayââ¬â¢s young adults are putting off marriage in favor of completing their educational requirements and exploring their independence. Many of them experience a delay of a decade or more between the completion of high school and the start of life as a couple (Smith). The research in both Arnettââ¬â¢s (2000) and Furstenbergââ¬â¢s et al (2004) articles is just the beginning of studying a life phase which merits further investigation. While both articles were well-written and appealed to the logos and ethos of their readers in a comprehensive manner by citing appropriate research and evidence, it was Furstenbergââ¬â¢s study ââ¬Å"Growing up is harder to doâ⬠however, that a made for a more compelling read based on its use of pathos in the writing style. The concepts and facts outlined were compelling and it will be interesting to note what further research comes about based on their conclusions and recommendations for reform of educational and military establishments. The U.S. - A Legitimate Democracy Essays - Forms Of Government
The U.S. - a Legitimate Democracy? In any system which claims to be democratic, a question of its legitimacy remains. A truly democratic political system has certain characteristics which prove its legitimacy with their existence. One essential characteristic of a legitimate democracy is that it allows people to freely make choices without government intervention. Another necessary characteristic which legitimates government is that every vote must count equally: one vote for every person. For this equality to occur, all people must be subject to the same laws, have equal civil rights, and be allowed to freely express their ideas. Minority rights are also crucial in a legitimate democracy. No matter how unpopular their views, all people should enjoy the freedoms of speech, press and assembly. Public policy should be made publicly, not secretly, and regularly scheduled elections should be held. Since "legitimacy" may be defined as "the feeling or opinion the people have that government is based upon morally defensible principles and that they should therefore obey it," then there must necessarily be a connection between what the people want and what the government is doing if legitimacy is to occur. The U.S. government may be considered legitimate in some aspects, and illegitimate in others. Because voting is class-biased, it may not be classified as a completely legitimate process. Although in theory the American system calls for one vote per person, the low rate of turnout results in the upper and middle classes ultimately choosing candidates for the entire nation. Class is determined by income and education, and differing levels of these two factors can help explain why class bias occurs. For example, because educated people tend to underezd politics more, they are more likely to vote. People with high income and education also have more resources, and poor people tend to have low political efficacy (feelings of low self-worth). Turnout, therefore, is low and, since the early 1960s, has been declining overall. The "winner-take-all" system in elections may be criticized for being undemocratic because the proportion of people agreeing with a particular candidate on a certain issue may not be adequately represented under this system. For example, "a candidate who gets 40 percent of the vote, as long as he gets more votes than any other candidate, can be elected?even though sixty percent of the voters voted against him"(Lind, 314). Political parties in America are weak due to the anti-party, anti-organization, and anti-politics cultural prejudices of the Classical Liberals. Because in the U.S. there is no national discipline to force citizens into identifying with a political party, partisan identification tends to be an informal psychological commitment to a party. This informality allows people to be apathetic if they wish, willingly giving up their input into the political process. Though this apathy is the result of greater freedom in America than in other countries, it ultimately decreases citizens' incentive to express their opinions about issues, therefore making democracy less legitimate. Private interests distort public policy making because, when making decisions, politicians must take account of campaign contributors. An "interest" may be defined as "any involvement in anything that affects the economic, social, or emotional well-being of a person." When interests become organized into groups, then politicians may become biased due to their influences. "Special interests buy favors from congressmen and presidents through political action committees (PACs), devices by which groups like corporations, professional associations, trade unions, investment banking groups?can pool their money and give up to $10,000 per election to each House and Senate candidate"(Lind, 157). Consequently, those people who do not become organized into interest groups are likely to be underrepresented financially. This leads to further inequality and, therefore, greater illegitimacy in the democratic system. The method in which we elect the President is fairly legitimate. The electoral college consists of representatives who we elect, who then elect the President. Because this fills the requirement of regularly scheduled elections, it is a legitimate process. The President is extremely powerful in foreign policy making; so powerful that scholars now speak of the "Imperial Presidency," implying that the President runs foreign policy as an emperor. The President is the chief diplomat, negotiator of treaties, and commander-in-chief of the armed forces. There has been a steady growth of the President's power since
